BUYING ART FROM GAEL HILLYARD CREATIVE

You and your home deserve the very best, and choosing a piece from one of my collections will ensure you are not only adding something unique to your space, you can do so knowing that it has been created using the finest materials, attention to detail, and the skill and experience of a visual story teller.

Creating your artwork, step by step

The journey to the completed work that will hang on your wall begins with an adventure: a visit to a lochan far up a secret glen, the glance of a Caledonian MacBrayne ferry heading to the Islands, or a pod of dolphins viewed from a local beach at golden hour. The painting starts right there in my sketchbook, where I capture the scene, along with colour stories, textures and marks. When I return to my studio I build upon these ideas by laying out my drawings in charcoal on fine Italian canvas or linen, and English or French cotton paper. The painting is created using the highest grades of acrylic, watercolour or oil, which is then sealed with varnish, or several layers of hand buffed wax.

Please look through my work, and visit my shop where you will find original paintings, prints, digital downloads, and stationery, including handmade journals and sketchbooks.

If you are thinking of exploring art either as a pastime, or a change of career, sign up for my newsletter where you will discover tips, ideas and tutorials, as well as details of workshops and offers; the form is at the bottom of the page. I am also creating a blog that gives insight to the art process, places you can explore in Scotland, how you can manage a studio, and ways to live your best creative life. Updates will be included in the newsletter.

But this is not a one way thing; I love hearing where other people have been, their dreams, and the places that are special, so feel free to share your own stories with me at hello@gaelhillyard.com. I really look forward to learning about you

Going Underground

Podzol (from my Soil Profile series), acrylic on canvas, Gael Hillyard

The local wildlife is getting ready for the long cold nights ahead by preparing dens and storing nutrients. We might feel more inclined to stay indoors, too. Is there is better way to mark the changing seasons than grabbing your pencils and paints, finding a sketchbook, and letting the memory of summer days fill the pages?

And as this is our Albainn bheadarrach (beloved Scotland) don’t be surprised if we get an early flurry of snow. Take a look at my latest work to bring a little colour to your day, instead.
