Live simply. Travel lightly. Tread softly.

The day started quietly, but not peaceful. Just silent. I played Continuum 3 by Nala Sinephro which set the mood perfectly with whispers of the sea and breezes.

I felt I accomplished nothing yesterday, but part of my being here is to lose that feeling of how important I think I am by being busy. I am not important, and do not need to prove it to myself or others.

But I did eat three meals, including a fabulous chilli I invented, organised my things, and watched a film - Bridget Jones Diary as it was the first thing that popped up on Netflix (yes, I can get Netflix here!). These are rarities for me, so yesterday was like a mini holiday.

In organising myself I realised how little personal stuff I had brought with me; two dresses, three jumpers, a couple of shirts, and a hat I knitted before I left. Very liberating. However, I also noticed I had inadvertently packed three toothbrushes, four pairs of gloves, and three bottles of Olbas Oil.

There are 1200 sheep on the island, 22 of which visited yesterday. I have also met eight people, and two dogs. All of whom have been unutterably kind and gracious.

I also had an Icelandic Redwing outside my studio window, and plenty of thrushes. And a blackbird (a real one with a yellow bill), which for some reason surprised me. But no puffins. Too late for them, sadly.

Work starts properly tomorrow.
