GEOMETRICS & PATTERN MAKING WORKSHOP
ADDITIONAL NOTES FROM WORKSHOP
Thank you for joining me on my recent Mandalas, Geometrics and Pattern Making Workshop. I hope you enjoyed it, I certainly did! As promised I have provided a some links to videos which show the unfolding of the pattern used on William Morris’ blockprint The Strawberry Thief, and Peter Deligdisch’s video about drawing mandalas.
Here is also a link to Canva where I made the pattern above - I hope you have fun creating your own patterns!
Also, take a look at the items we created on Redbubble using this pattern!
Thanks again, and if you have any questions do not hesitate to get in touch at hello@gaelhillyard.com.
PS Do send me pictures of your work if you like, I’d love to see it!
This is a layout similar to that used in the Peter Draws’ mandala.

Colouring your geometric work
Use pencils, paint, or markers to colour your drawings; these can give a clean crisp feel to your work, but if you prefer a looser look, try using ink and washing it out with water. If you had one of my ink kits last year you will find the inks in that set are ideal for that (I have included the image we quickly coloured this morning as an example). Using colour in this way will help you tremendously with learning about colour schemes and devising palettes.
PS To help keep your ink bottles a little more secure, I have now created a stand to help keep everything in place and help prevent spillages.
Right click and save the image above to your computer, then print it out and fold according to the instructions. Be sure to check the 25mm guide measure is accurate after printing.
Thanks again for joining me at my Mandalas and Geometrics workshop, and look forward to seeing you at the next one.
