SOIL PROFILE

Found objects and acrylic on polymer clay,
mounted on monoprinted panel (sold)
Gael Hillyard 2020

Inspired by my studies at the Scottish School of Forestry, this work represents the four types of soil found in arboreal forests. These are: typical brown earth, podzol, gley, and alluvial. Water, microbes, iron, a sleepy sloe worm, and roots are represented by watch parts, twigs, and Swarowski crystals.

The panel is a monoprint of leaves from the Scottish School of Forestry and the colour has been mixed to echo that of spruce.
