Urquhart Bay original watercolour painting
This painting was based on a photograph taken from my daughter's nursery which overlooked Loch Ness; there often seemed to be yacht moored in the Bay although I never saw it leave or arrive. I painted this in my studio in Inverness using many different Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton blues and turquoises to build up the colour, along with layers of tissue paper to create texture. It was painted on an old North Sea oil chart rescued from a book that was being held together by bits of tape and staples. The painting is very vibrant and has loads of textural interest.
Urquhart Bay sits near Drumnadrochit about half way up Loch Ness. It is also the site of the world famous Urquhart Castle, one of the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland. My daughter's middle name just happens to be Urquhart!
The artwork will be carefully packaged and posted within a few days; it is unframed but is matted in a pale ivory picture mount ready for your own framing. It is a slightly whimsical and quirky piece that will look lovely in a simple black or white frame in a kitchen, study, hallway, or children's room or nursery.
Please let me know if you would like me to include a message for the recipient if you are sending it as a gift.
There is also a digital download available of this painting.
PS If you're wondering, 'Urquhart' is pretty much pronounced the same as 'haircut'!
